Milton Abbas is
steeped in history and is one of the picture post card villages of
Dorset. This street of cottages, with white cob walls and thatch roofs
nestles under woody hillsides. The cottages were built in the 1790s for
the villagers of Milton Abbas following the demolition of the old
village around the Abbey by their landlord, Lord Milton.
The present day Milton Abbas is quiet and peaceful but never dull. It
has its own Post Office and Pub/Hotel, The Hambro Arms, which is only
four minutes walk away uphill but two minutes walk home. This is the
place for walkers, hikers, bikers and day dreamers.
There are a range of places of interest to visit. Milton Abbas is close
to Blandford Forum and ten miles away from Dorchester. Both are quaint
small towns with a range of shops and both have their market days.
Dorchester is at the heart of Thomas Hardy country and his cottage at
Bockhampton is open to visitors.
